Astros Minor League Recap: June 24th

Another day of minor league baseball is in the books. See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (34-42) won 7-1 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the third inning on a Biggio RBI single. Pecko got the start and turned in another great outing allowing 1 run over 6 innings while striking out 4. Sugar Land took the lead on a Dezenzo solo home run and a run on a balk. The offense added 4 more runs in the 8th on a Spence RBI double, Biggio RBI single, Whitcomb RBI single and Ferreras RBI single. The pen was great tossing 3 scoreless innings as they closed out the 7-1 win.

Note: Pecko has allowed 2 runs over his last 24 innings.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (33-38) won 10-1 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the first inning scoring 4 runs on a Sullivan walk, Whitaker groundout, Bush walk and a Whitaker steal of home. Mayer got the start for the Hooks and pitched well tossing 5.2 scoreless innings with 3 strikeouts. The offense picked up 3 more runs in the 5th inning on a Sisneros solo home run, Whitaker RBI single and Holy RBI single. The offense added 3 more runs in the 7th on a Bush solo home run and 2 runs on wild pitches. The pen allowed one run but closed out the 10-1 win.

Note: Austin has a .863 OPS in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (18-52) lost 5-0 (BOX SCORE)

Santos started for Asheville but struggled allowing 3 runs over 3.2 innings. It was another rough day for the Asheville offense as they collected just 3 hits, all singles, as they were shutout in the 5-0 loss.

Note: Cuevas has a 1.29 ERA in High-A.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (35-35) won 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

Potter started for the Woodpeckers and went 3 scoreless innings with 3 strikeouts. After falling behind 1-0, the Woodpeckers took the lead in the 6th scoring 2 runs on a Neyens RBI double and an Alvarez RBI single. Verdugo relieved Potter and allowed 2 runs over 5 innings. With the game tied in the 8th, the Woodpeckers scored 4 runs getting 2 runs on wild pitches and 2 runs on a Wakefield RBI single and Cauro RBI single. Cassedy closed it out with a scoreless s9th as the Woodpeckers won 6-2.

Note: Huezo has 28 SB this season.
