Astros Minor League Recap: June 16th

Another day of minor league baseball is in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (30-38) lost 8-3 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board scoring 3 runs in the first inning on an Alexander RBI single, Ferreras hit by pitch and Perez sac fly. Javier started for Sugar Land and was scoreless the first three innings before allowing 3 runs in the 4th. He was relieved by Mancini who allowed 3 runs and then Cosgrove who allowed 2 runs. The offense was unable to get anything else going as Sugar Land fell 8-3.

Note: Ferreras is hitting .447 in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (29-34) POSTPONED

A+: Asheville Tourists (17-46) won 9-8 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Daudet 2 run double. After Bowling Green tied it, the Tourists retook the lead on a Garcia groundout in the 4th. Bowling Green got 2 more runs but Asheville tied it in the 5th on an Ochoa RBI single. Rodriguez got the start and went 5 innings allowing 4 runs, 3 earned. In the 6th the teams exchanged 2 runs with Asheville keeping it tied on Nunez and Daudet RBI singles. The teams again exchanged runs in the 7th inning. Bowling Green took the lead in the 8th inning but in the 9th Asheville would respond. They tied the game scoring a run on a wild pitch and then with a runner on third, Nunez would reach on an error as the winning won crossed the plate.

Note: Powell is hitting .310 this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (31-32) won 6-3 (BOX SCORE)

Fraide started for the Woodpeckers and was solid allowing 3 runs over 5 innings of work. The Woodpeckers got on the board in the 3rd inning scoring 4 runs on a Huezo 2 run home run and Flores 2 run home run. In the 5th, Huezo added another run on a solo home run. The Woodpeckers got one more run in the 7th on a Luciano RBI single. Beck went the final 4 innings and was dominant tossing 4 scoreless frames with 8 strikeouts.

Note: Huezo is hitting .362 with 5 HR in 12 games in June.
