Astros Minor League Recap: June 11th

Another day of minor league baseball is in the books. See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (28-38) won 2-0 (BOX SCORE)

The offense got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Winkler RBI double. Perez added to the score with an RBI double in the 6th inning. Pecko got the start for Sugar Land and was dominant tossing 7 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts on just 80 pitches.

Note: Ferreras is hitting .444 in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (26-35) lost 8-5 (BOX SCORE)

Hicks started for the Hooks but had some struggled as he allowed 5 runs, 4 earned, over 5 innings of work. The offense got on the board in the 6th scoring 2 runs on a Whitaker 2 run double, but the RockHounds immediately got 2 more in the bottom of the inning. In the 7th, the Hooks got another run on a Spence groundout. They got 2 more runs in the 8th on a Holy sac fly and Schiavone bases loaded walk. The RockHounds got another run in the 8th though as they extended their lead. The Hooks offense was quiet in the 9th as they fell 8-5.

Note: Schiavone has a .962 OPS in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (16-42) lost 8-7 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the first inning on a Powell solo home run. They got another run in the 2nd inning on a Thomas bases loaded walk. Oakes got the start and went 2 innings allowing 4 runs with 4 strikeouts. Asheville got one run back in the 4th inning on a Daudet RBI single. Wells relieved Oakes and threw 4 no-hit innings. The offense scored 2 runs in the 7th on an error and Ochoa RBI single as they took the lead. After the Spartanburgers tied it in the 7th, they retook the lead in the 8th on a Thomas RBI single. The Spartanburgers scored 2 in the 8th to take the lead but in the 9th Asheville tied it on a Garcia RBI single. The game went to extras and in the 10th, the Spartanburgers were able to walk it off as Asheville fell 8-7.

Note: Ochoa is hitting .368 in High-A.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (28-32) won 12-5 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the first inning on a Neyens RBI single. They picked up another run in the third on a Ramirez steal of home. Shoemaker started for the Woodpeckers and tossed 3 no-hit innings, allowing one unearned run, while striking out 7. The offense added 2 runs in the 5th on a Salas RBI double and Huezo RBI single. In the 6th, the offense continued to score collecting 4 runs on a Salas 2 run single, Neyens bases loaded walk and Luciano sac fly. Salem got 4 runs off of Serrano but the offense got some insurance with a 3 run home run from Diaz and a solo home run from Cauro in the 9th. Cassedy closed it out with a scoreless 9th inning as the Woodpeckers won 12-5.

Note: Neyens has 43 walks in 47 games this season.
