Astros Minor League Recap: May 5th

Another day of minor league baseball is in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (17-17) lost 7-5 (BOX SCORE)

Whitcomb put Sugar Land on the board in the first inning on a 2 run home run. Imai made a rehab start and went 3 innings allowing 1 run, though he did walk 5. The offense picked up another run in the third on an Alexander RBI single and then one more in the 4th on an Unrow RBI single. Hader pitched in relief and tossed a scoreless inning. Pearson was the next rehab pitcher in but he struggled allowing 3 runs retiring just 2 batters. The game went to extra innings and in the 10th, the Isotopes scored 3 runs to take the lead. Biggio drove in a run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single but that was it from the offense as Sugar Land fell 7-5.

Note: Santa has a 1.88 ERA this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (13-14) POSTPONED

A+: Asheville Tourists (7-21) won 10-9 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the first inning on a Brutcher bases loaded walk. In the 2nd inning, Thomas added an RBI single to extend the lead. Rodriguez got the start and allowed 2 runs over 5 innings of work. The offense put together a big 4th inning scoring 4 runs on a Powell 3 run home run and a Nunez solo home run. They followed that up with 4 more runs in the 5th on Frey and Brutcher 2 run singles. The pen struggled a bit allowing 7 runs but was able to hold on for the 10-9 win.

Note: Thomas is hitting .292 this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (11-17) won 6-0 (BOX SCORE

The Woodpeckers jumped put to an early three run lead getting solo home runs in the first inning on Neyens and Ochoa and a Flores RBI single. Verdugo got the start and pitched really well tossing 5 no-hit innings with 5 strikeouts. In the 5th, the offense got 2 more runs on an Alvarez 2 run home run. Sierra added some insurance in the 6th with a solo home run. Varela tossed a scoreless inning and Beck closed it out striking out 5 over 3 scoreless innings as the Woodpeckers won 6-0.

Note: Neyens is hitting .372 over his last 12 games.
