Astros Minor League Recap: May 28th

Another day of minor league baseball is in the books. See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (23-31) lost 9-2 (BOX SCORE)

Pecko started for Sugar Land but struggled allowing 6 runs over 4.1 innings. The Sugar Land offense got on the board in the first inning on an error. Hader allowed 3 runs in relief as OKC extended their lead. Sugar Land got a run back in the 7th on a Price solo home run but that was it as they fell 9-2.

Note: Price has a .849 OPS this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (23-25) won 8-5 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the first inning on a Schiavone 2 run home run. They got 4 more runs in the 4th inning on a Holy bases loaded walk, Spence 2 run single and a run on a double play. Hicks got the start and was solid allowing 2 runs over 5.1 innings. The offense added 2 more runs in the 7th on a Williams RBI single and Whitaker RBI double.

Note: Schiavone has 19 HR this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (9-38) lost 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Powell solo home run. They got another run in the 4th inning on a Frey solo home run. Hertzler got the start and was great striking out 8 over 5.2 innings allowing 1 run. The Drive got an unearned run in the 6th to tie the game. The game went to extra innings and in the 10th, the Drive walked it off scoring a run on a wild pitch.

Note: Frey is hitting .308 over his last 20 games.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (21-27) won 4-2 (BOX SCORE)

Perez started for the Woodpeckers and was solid allowing 2 runs, both in the first, over 5 innings while striking out 6 batters. The Woodpeckers got on the board in the 4th on a Huezo RBI single. The offense rallied in the 7th scoring 3 runs, though all three were on errors. The pen was great with Mathiesen tossing a scoreless inning and Varela closing it out with 3 scoreless as the Woodpeckers won 4-2.

Note: Perez has 9 BB/54 K in 47.1 innings this season.
