Astros Minor League Recap: September 5th

Another day of Astros minor league baseball in the books! See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (68-65) won 5-2 (BOX SCORE)

France started for Sugar Land and was really solid allowing 1 run over 5 innings while striking out 3. Knorr allowed an unearned run and Weems tossed 1.1 scoreless innings. Sugar Land went into the 8th down 2-0 but rallied for 5 runs on a Price solo HR, Corona RBI single, a run scoring on a wild pitch and a Cole 2 run triple.

Note: Cole has a 1.364 OPS in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (44-84) lost 7-1 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the second inning scoring a run on a Baez RBI double. Tredwell got the start and went 2 innings allowing 1 run. He was relieved by Bido who allowed 1 run over 2.1 innings. After 1.2 scoreless from David, Sanchez came in and allowed 3 runs as the Missions extended their lead. Perez allowed a couple more runs and the offense was quiet the rest of the way as the Hooks fell 7-1.

Note: Baez is hitting .371 over his last 16 games.


A+: Asheville Tourists (51-75) lost 10-0 (BOX SCORE)

True started for Asheville and went 4 innings allowing 3 runs while striking out 8. Santos allowed 6 runs in relief as the bullpen struggled against the Hot Rods. The offense had a rough night collecting just 3 hit as they were shutout 10-0.

Note: Schiavone has a .901 OPS in High-A.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (69-61) won 13-7 (BOX SCORE)

Rodriguez started for the Woodpeckers and went 3 innings allowing 5 runs, 4 earned. The offense got on the board in the 4th on a Call sac fly and another run scoring on a steal of home. The offense blew things open in the 5th scoring 6 runs on a Frey solo HR, Call bases loaded walk and Monistere grand slam. They picked up another run in the 6th on a wild pitch. Rosario relieved Rodriguez and tossed 3 scoreless innings. The offense continued to add on getting 2 runs in the 7th on a groundout and Daudet RBI single. In the 9th the Woodpeckers scored 2 more to extend the lead. The Red Sox picked up a few runs late but the pen held on for the win.

Note: Frey is hitting .297 this season.
