This will be your weekly hot list of prospects who are performing well at the plate and on the mound. Here is last week’s hotlist. Below is the new hotlist for Week Sixteen.

Who’s Hot At The Plate?

Lucas Spence – Spence was signed as an undrafted free agent last year but has been a great find for Houston. After starting the year in Fayetteville he was promoted to Asheville where he performed well earning a promotion to Double-A. In his first week with the Hooks, Spence hit .333 with 2 double, 2 home runs and a stolen base.

Hector Salas – The Astros signed Salas last year and he made quick work of rookie ball making his way to Fayetteville. After some decent numbers there he got a promotion to High-A Asheville where he performed well hitting .357 with a double and 3 walks to 3 strikeouts in five games.

Sami Manzueta – The Astros signed Manzueta earlier this year and is a very intriguing prospect. He started his pro career this summer at just 16 years old in the Dominican Summer League. He has shown off good power and this week he hit .400 with 2 doubles, 2 home runs and 7 runs batted in. He also has more walks than strikeouts.

Alejandro Nunez – Nunez started off the season well but had a rough stretch in the middle. This week he has back to his hitting ways where he hit .304 with a home run and 4 runs batted in. Overall the 20-year-old is hitting .267 with 16 doubles, 6 home runs and 16 stolen bases in 78 games.

Who’s Hot On The Mound?

Joan Ogando – Ogando has had an up and down season but when he is on, he has been great. This week the right-hander made one start for the Woodpeckers and tossed 5 no-hit innings while striking out 9. While he has some command issues, the 21-year-old has 97 K in 82 innings this season.

AJ Blubaugh – Blubaugh had a great outing for Houston before being sent back down to Triple-A, and this week he pitched like he wants another call up. Pitching in a tough environment, the right-hander tossed 6 scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts. Despite some struggles earlier, Blubaugh has proven he can be a solid MLB arm.

Eurys Martich – Martich has gone mostly under the radar in the Astros system. The 22-year-old has posted some great strikeout rates, but has some walk issues. This week in two games, he went 5.1 innings allowing 2 hits, 1 run and striking out 12. He has 109 K in 85.2 minor league innings.

Ramsey David – David kind of burst onto the scene in Spring Training when the Astros Player Development account noted he was up to 99 MPH. This week the right-hander pitched in two games striking out 9 over 5.1 scoreless innings. He has 78 K in 73.2 innings and has held opponents to a .190 BAA.
