Astros Minor League Recap: August 9th

Another day of Astros minor league baseball in the books! See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (53-57) lost 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

The offense got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Corona RBI double. They got another run in the third inning on a Davidson RBI double. Ivey got the start and was solid allowing 3 runs over 6.1 innings with 6 strikeouts. The game went to the 9th with Sugar Land down 3-2 but Corona came through with an RBI single to tie it. In the bottom of the 9th, the River Cats got a run as they walked it off and Sugar Land fell 4-3.

Note: Corona is hitting .300 in August.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (37-69) lost 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

Dombroski got the start for the Hooks and allowed 2 runs over 4.1 innings. The offense got on the board in the 4th on a Williams RBI single. The pen came in and allowed a few runs as the Drillers extended their lead. The offense was quiet the rest of the way as the Hooks fell 5-1.

Note: Spence is hitting .333 in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (43-62) lost 27-4 (BOX SCORE)

So… on offense got on the board in the second inning on a fielder’s choice. They got 2 runs in the 5th on a Nunez 2 run HR. In the 9th, the offense added a Lytle RBI single. The pitching really struggled and I will just leave it at that.

Note: Lytle is hitting .353 through his first five games.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (56-49) won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Perez made his Single-A debut and was great allowing 1 run over 5 innings while striking out 7. The offense got on the board in the 5th scoring a run on a fielder’s choice. Frias pitched in relief and tossed 3 scoreless innings. In the 9th, the offense rallied for 2 runs on a Walker RBI groundout and Ramirez RBI single. Mercedes allowed a run in the 9th but held on for the save as the Woodpeckers won 3-2.

Note: Perez has 55 K in 47.2 innings overall this season.
