Astros Minor League Recap: August 21st

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (59-61) won 5-2 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the first inning scoring 3 runs on a Whitcomb 2 run double and Singleton RBI single. They added 2 more runs in the 4th on Corona and Leon RBI singles. Fleury started for Sugar Land and went 4 innings allowing 1 run with 4 strikeouts. France went the next five innings striking out 6 while allowing just one unearned run as he closed out the 5-2 win.

Note: Whitcomb has 19 doubles this season.

  • J.P. France, RHP: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K (WIN)

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (40-76) won 4-2 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the first inning scoring 2 runs on a Martinez RBI groundout and Austin RBI single. Urias got the start and allowed 1 run over 2 innings. The offense added 2 more runs in the 3rd on Alvarez and Austin RBI doubles. Dombroski pitched in relief and tossed 4 innings allowing 1 run with 6 strikeouts. David and Leach had scoreless outings in relief to close out the win.

Note: Yordan is 5-for-8 through two rehab games.


A+: Asheville Tourists (48-65) POSTPONED

A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (62-55) lost 10-6 (BOX SCORE)

Perez started for the Woodpeckers and allowed 4 runs over 5 innings of work. The offense got on the board in the 3rd on a Powell RBI single and Walker hit by pitch. In the 5th, Frey added a solo home run, his first professional homer. The offense got another run in the 7th on a Monistere RBI single. Aguilar relieved Perez but struggled allowing 6 runs while retiring just 2 batters. The Woodpeckers got a couple runs in the 9th on a Monistere RBI double and Daudet RBI groundout but that was it as they fell 10-6.

Note: Frey has 11 RBI in 16 games.
