Astros Minor League Recap: August 12th

Another day of Astros minor league baseball in the books! See the results below.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (54-58) won 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Kouba got the start but struggled allowing 3 runs while retiring just one batter. Sugar Land got on the board in the first on a Matthews solo HR. In the 6th, Salazar connected on a 3 run HR to give Sugar Land the lead. The pen was great tossing 8.2 scoreless innings as they close-out the 4-3 win.

Note: Matthews has a .870 OPS in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (37-71) lost 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Swanson started for the Hooks and pitched well allowing 1 hit and 1 run over 5.1 innings while striking out 7. The offense got on the board in the 5th inning on a Bush solo HR. Halligan came on in relief and allowed a run as the Sod Poodles took the lead. The offense was quiet the rest of the way as the Hooks fell 2-1.

Note: Bush has a .939 OPS in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (45-62) won 4-1 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Whitaker solo HR. In the 3rd, the offense got a run on an Encarnacion RBI single. Howard made his High-A debut and was really good allowing 1 run over 5 innings with 6 strikeouts. In the 6th Whitaker added an RBI on a fielder’s choice and then an RBI triple in the 8th to extend the lead. Pinto closed it out tossing 4 scoreless innings as Asheville won 4-1.

Note: Janek has a .780 OPS this season.

  • Jean Pinto, RHP: 4.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K (SAVE)

A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (57-50) lost 7-5 (BOX SCORE)

Gonzalez started for the Woodpeckers and allowed 2 runs over 4 innings. The Mudcats got 2 runs off Landeta to make it 4-0. In the bottom of the 6th, the Woodpeckers got on the board scoring a run on a fielder’s choice and 2 runs on a Flores 2 run single. The Mudcats got 2 in the 8th but the Woodpeckers responded with a Monistere 2 run HR in the bottom of the inning. Mercedes allowed a run in the 9th and the offense was unable to comeback as the Woodpeckers fell 7-5.

Note: Powell has 15 SB this season.
