Astros Minor League Recap: June 27th

Another day of Astros minor league baseball in the books! See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (40-39)

Game 1 – lost 10-7 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the third on a Barber RBI triple. They got 2 more runs in the 3rd on sac flies from Short and Price. Ullola got the start and allowed 3 runs over 4.2 innings before being relieved by Halligan who allowed another 3 runs. The offense got a Whitcomb sac fly in the 5th and Matthews 3 run HR in the 6th to take the lead. Robertson was unable to hold the lead as he allowed 4 runs in the 6th and Sugar Land fell 10-7.

Note: Matthews has 10 HR this season.

Game 2 – won 11-5 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board with 4 runs in the first inning on a Lavastida 2 run single, Diaz RBI single and run scoring on a wild pitch. They continued to add on getting an RBI single from Short in the second, RBI single from Whitcomb in the 3rd and RBI single from Short in the 4th. Ivey got the start and allowed 3 runs over 5 innings of work. The offense added more runs in the 5th and 6th as Sugar Land won game two 11-5.

Note: Castro has a .942 OPS in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (23-49) lost 3-1 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Ferreras RBI single. Fleury got the start and tossed 4 scoreless innings with 2 strikeouts. Mancini went the next 5 innings allowing 3 runs. The offense was quiet the rest of the way though as the Hooks fell 3-1.

Note: Fleury has a 1.82 ERA this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (33-39) won 5-3 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the first inning on a Bush RBI groundout, Bush RBI double and Gomez RBI single. Bello got the start and was solid allowing 1 run over 5 innings. The offense got another run in the 6th on a Gomez sac fly and one more in the 7th on a Nunez sac fly. The pen allowed a couple of runs but held on for the 5-3 win.

Note: Nunez is hitting .287 this season.

  • Juan Bello, RHP: 5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K (WIN)
  • Ramsey David, RHP: 3.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
  • Railin Perez, RHP: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K (SAVE)

A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (40-33) won 5-2 (BOX SCORE)

Rodriguez got the start for the Woodpeckers and went 5 innings allowing 1 unearned run. The offense got on the board in the 3rd on a Salas RBI single. Fisher connected on a 2 run HR in the 5th inning. In the 6th, the offense got 2 runs on a Schiavone RBI double and Valencia RBI single.

Note: Valencia has 32 stolen bases this season.
