Astros Minor League Recap: June 25th

Another day of Astros minor league baseball in the books! See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (39-38) lost 14-8 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the first inning on a Bastidas RBI single. They got 2 more runs in the 2nd inning on a Whitcomb hit by pitch and Castro sac fly. Brown got the start but struggled allowing 10 runs over 4 innings of work. The offense would rally for 4 runs in the 5th on a Bastidas RBI single, Price RBI double, Diaz sac fly and Corona RBI groundout. El Paso scored a few more runs off of Kouba extending their lead and the offense was unable to come back as Sugar Land fell 14-8.

Note: Matthews is hitting .285 this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (22-48) lost 6-0 (BOX SCORE)

Pecko started for the Hooks but ran into some trouble allowing 5 runs over 3.2 innings of work. Santa was solid in relief allowing 1 run over 3 innings but the offense really struggled collecting just 2 hits in the 6-0 loss.

Note: Santa has a 1.29 ERA this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (32-38) lost 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the first inning on a Spence RBI single. They got another run in the 2nd inning on a Vogel solo HR. Santos got the start and went 5 innings allowing 4 runs. Langford was good in relief tossing 3 scoreless innings. In the 8th, Bush connected on an RBI double. That was it from the offense though as Asheville fell 4-3.

Note: Janek is hitting .282 this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (38-33) won 10-1 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the first inning scoring 2 runs on a Villarroel RBI double and Holy sac fly. They got 2 more in the 2nd inning on a Salas RBI groundout and Luciano RBI single. Howard got the start and pitched well allowing 1 run over 5 innings with 3 strikeouts. The offense continued to add on getting 2 in the 4th on a Villarroel RBI single and Hernandez groundout. Schiavone added a solo HR in the 5th. In the 6th inning, the offense added 2 runs on a Hernandez sac fly and Holy RBI single. Hernandez drove in another run with an RBI single in the 8th inning. McPherson closed it out tossing 4 scoreless innings as the Woodpeckers won 10-1.

Note: Villarroel has a .352 OBP this season.
