Astros Minor League Recap: June 24th

Another day of Astros minor league baseball in the books! See the results below.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (39-37) lost 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the first inning scoring 2 runs on a Bastidas 2 run single. In the 2nd inning they got 2 more runs on a Castro RBI single and another RBI single from Bastidas. In the 3rd, Matthews added an RBI groundout. Blubaugh got the start and pitched well allowing 1 run over 5.1 innings with 6 strikeouts. The game stayed 5-1 until the 8th when the pen allowed 5 runs and El Paso took lead, and eventually won 6-5.

Note: Castro is hitting .320 in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (22-47) lost 8-2 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the first inning on an Austin solo HR. They got another run in the 4th on a Cole solo HR. Urias got the start and went 6.1 innings allowing 4 runs. The pen struggled a bit allowing 4 more runs as the Naturals extended their lead. The offense was quiet the rest of the way as the Hooks fell 8-2.

Note: Dombroski has a 3.00 ERA in Double-A this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (32-37) lost 16-6 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the first inning on a Nunez 2 run double. They got another run in the 2nd inning on a Vogel solo HR and another in the 3rd inning on a Jaworsky RBI single. Pinto got the start and allowed 4 runs over 3.1 innings. He was relieved by Swiney who allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, over 1 inning. Next in was Tucker who allowed 6 unearned runs, followed by Mikulski who allowed 2 more runs as the game got out of hand.

Note: Janek is hitting .282 this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (37-33) won 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board scoring 2 runs in the first on an error and Valencia RBI single. They got 2 more runs in the 2nd inning on a Hernandez sac fly and Luciano RBI single. Ogando started for the Woodpeckers and went 5 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts. Valencia added a sac fly in the 8th inning. The pen was solid allowing 1 run as they closed out the 5-1 win.

Note: Ogando has a 3.86 ERA this season.
