Astros Minor League Recap: May 3rd

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (16-16) 

Game 1 – won 6-1 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the first on a Matthews double play ball. In the third, they added on 3 runs on a Sacco 2 run double and Corona RBI groundout. Gordon got the start and was solid allowing 1 run over 5 innings with 5 strikeouts. In the 6th, the offense added back to back homers from Guillorme and Sacco. Dubin and Castro tossed scoreless innings as they closed out game one.

Note: Gordon has a 2.48 ERA this season.

Game 2 – lost 8-2 (BOX SCORE)

Walter started game 2 and was solid allowing 3 runs, 2 earned, over 6 innings of work. The offense got on the board in the 5th on a Bastidas 2 run HR. Round Rock got some insurance off Robertson in the 7th inning scoring 5 runs and the Sugar Land offense was unable to complete the comeback as they fell 8-2.

Note: Walter has a 2.43 ERA this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (9-17) lost 4-1 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the first inning on a Cole RBI single. Nezuh started for the Hooks and pitched well the first 4 innings butt then allowed 3 runs in the 5th. Santa had another good outing in relief striking out 4 over 2 scoreless innings. The Missions added another run in the 8th to extend their lead and the Hooks’ offense was quiet the rest of the way as they fell 4-1.

Note: Santa has a 1.02 ERA this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (12-14) won 6-0 (BOX SCORE)

True started for Asheville and pitched well striking out 3 over 5 scoreless innings. Asheville got on the board in the 4th inning on a Jaworsky RBI single and a run on a passed ball. In the 8th, the offense added 3 runs on a Janek 2 run triple and Gonzalez RBI single. Fisher added a sac fly in the 9th. Santos went the last 4 innings without allowing a run as he closed out the 6-0 win.

Note: Jaworsky is hitting .250 this season.

  • Yeriel Santos, RHP: 4.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K (SAVE)

A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (14-12) won 10-5 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the first inning scoring 2 runs on a Holy RBI single and a run on a wild pitch. They got another run in the third on an error. Tredwell started for the Woodpeckers and went 4 innings allowing 4 runs. In the 5th, the offense rallied for 5 runs on a Villarroel RBI double, Valencia RBI single and Trimble 3 run double. In the 8th, Brutcher added some insurance with a 2 run single. Gonzalez allowed 1 run over 4.1 innings in relief and Ras closed it out retiring the final two batters.

Note: Holy is hitting .394 this season.
