Astros Minor League Recap: April 16th

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (7-10) lost 12-4 (BOX SCORE)

Brown started for Sugar Land but struggled allowing 5 runs over 4.1 innings. Matthews put Sugar Land on the board with a solo HR in the 2nd inning. In the 7th, Whitcomb connected on a 3 run HR. The pen allowed 7 runs over the the final 3.2 innings as Sugar Land fell 12-4.

Note: Whitcomb has 4 HR, 12 RBI this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (3-8) lost 7-3 (BOX SCORE)

Dombroski started for the Hooks and was solid tossing 3 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts. The pen ran into trouble in the 4th as Swanson and Bido combined to allowed 6 runs. The offense rallied for 3 runs in the 9th on a Barber 2 run triple and Sherwin RBI single but that was it as they fell 7-3.

Note: Dombroski has a 1.29 ERA this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (5-5) won 2-0 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the first inning on a Nunez lead-off homer. Guedez got the start and pitched really well allowing just 1 hit and no runs over 5 innings of work. In the 4th, Sullivan connected on a solo HR to make it 2-0. Gillis tossed 3 perfect innings in relief striking out 5 and Leach closed it out with a perfect 9th as Asheville on 2-0.

Note: Leach has tossed 4.2 perfect innings with 10 strikeouts in relief this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (5-5) won 7-1 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the bottom of the first on a Hernandez leadoff homer and a Valencia RBI single. They got another run in the 2nd inning on a Powell RBI double. Gonzalez got the start and was dominant striking out 6 over 5 scoreless innings. In the 6th, Schiavone added a solo HR. The offense added more insurance in the 7th with a Carrillo RBI single and Schiavone RBI double. Tredwell pitched in relief allowing 1 run over 3 innings while striking out 6. Almonte closed it out with a scoreless 9th as the Woodpeckers won 7-1.

Note: Villarroel is hitting .333 this season.
