As we inch closer to the 2025 season, I am going to give top three prospects at each position. This will be based on where they currently play and also where they may end up. This will culminate with my newly updated top 30 prospects before the season starts. This week, we are moving on to the left-handed pitching position.

Previous Top Three:

Catcher

First Base

Second Base

Third Base

Shortstop

Outfield

Right-Handers

1. Colton Gordon

Gordon was an intriguing draft pick in 2021 after a good college career, but went into the draft after having Tommy John Surgery. Gordon dominated the lower minors posting a 2.35 ERA in 2022. In 2023, he had a 4.14 ERA making it up to Triple-A. In 2024, he improved on those numbers posting a 3.95 ERA with 124 K in 123.1 innings for Sugar Land. He won’t over power hitters with his fastball in the low 90s, but he has phenomenal command and pitchability with his secondary offerings making him an uncomfortable at-bat. Read more on Gordon here.

2. Trey Dombroski

Dombroski was drafted by the Astros in the 4th round of the 2022 draft after a standout career at Monmouth University, including 14 BB/130 K in 95 innings as a junior. The lefty stands at 6’5″ and 235 lbs. While he doesn’t blow you away with his stuff, he really knows how to pitch and has really good command. Dombroski’s ERA was high in 2024 (5.90) but he struck out 112 batters over 97.2 innings between High-A and Double-A. He also had a 3.5 SO/BB ratio. Read more on Dombroski here.

3. Colby Langford

Langford was selected by the Astros in the 17th round out of Murray State College, a community college in Oklahoma after leading NJCAA D2 in strikeouts with 128. He started out the season well in Fayetteville, striking out 54 in 40.2 innings. He was promoted to Asheville where his numbers fell off a bit, but he still racked up some strikeouts. He struggled with his command some in 2024, but has a sneaky good fastball that generates a lot of swings and misses.
