As we inch closer to the 2025 season, I am going to give top three prospects at each position. This will be based on where they currently play and also where they may end up. This will culminate with my newly updated top 30 prospects before the season starts. This week, we are starting with the first base position.

1. Zach Dezenzo
Dezenzo was drafted in the 12th round of the 2022 draft and is looking like an absolute steal. He was a senior who put up a strong year at Ohio State slugging .701 with 19 HR in 51 games before dominating the MLB Draft League. The right-hander has plus power and really strong exit velocities numbers. He is a bat-first prospect who bas played both third base and first base, but has the bat profile to fit at either. Dezenzo played 19 major league games this year with 14 of them coming at first base. In the minors in 2024, Dezenzo hit .300 with a .877 OPS making his way up to Triple-A. Read more on Dezenzo here.
2. Cam Fisher
Fisher was drafted by the Astros in 2023 after having a great college career at UNC Charlotte. The lefty hitter slashed .348/.507/.813 with 30 HR, 64 BB in 64 games this season. He offers plus power and bat speed. Fisher gets on base at a high clip, though strikeouts have been a concern. Fisher is an adequate athlete and scouts have noted he might stick in right field or possibly end up in left field. In 2024, Fisher had some struggles at High-A racking up too many strikeouts, but he still was able to connect on 14 home runs overall.
3. Luis Encarnacion
Encarnacion, out of the Dominican Republic, has been in the Astros since in 2021. He had his best season in 2024, making it up to Double-A. He played in 4 games in Single-A before getting a quick promotion to Asheville. There, he hit .263 with 12 doubles, 10 home runs, 52 runs batted in and a .718 OPS as a 21-year-old. He was promoted to Double-A where he has 4 home runs over the final 7 games. Overall, he had 15 home runs and hit .267 in 91 games this season. While he doesn’t have the big time power at first, he makes contact and doesn’t strike out much.
