Houston Astros Announce Minor League Staffs for 2025

The Houston Astros announced their minor-league staffs and coordinators for the 2025 season Monday!

Triple-A Sugar Land

Manager: Mickey Storey

Pitching Coach: Sean Buchanana

Hitting Coach: Joe Thurston

Development Coach: Wladimir Sutil

Athletic Trainer: Takeaki Ando

Strength Coach: Sam Knox

Dietician: Tara Boening

Mental Health: Justin McKissick

Storey returned to Sugar Land after leading Sugar Land to their first Triple-A National Championship in 2024. This will be his 5th season as the Sugar Land manager. Buchanan joins the staff for the first time in 2025 after his work with the Hooks as the pitching coach in 2024. This will be Thurston’s first season in Houston after spending the last three years in the Phillies system in Triple-A. Sutil enters his fourth season with Sugar Land and is ther longest tenured assistant coach with Storey.

Double-A Corpus Christi

Manager: Ricky Rivera

Pitching Coach: Alex Harter

Hitting Coach: Bobby Bell

Development Coach: Jeff Calhoon

Athletic Trainer: Jennifer Bardales

Strength Coach: Kevin Rivera

Dietician: Kara Beitler

Rivera received a promotion after two years leading the Single-A Fayetteville Woodpeckers and this will be his fifth season as a minor league manager.

“A big South Texas welcome to Ricky and the rest of our field staff,” Hooks General Manager Brady Ballard said in a release. “To win manager of the year in Puerto Rico, and to do so as the youngest skipper in the circuit, is quite an accomplishment.”

Harter joins the staff after one year of being the High-A Asheville Tourists’ pitching coach. Bell returns to Corpus Christi for his third year as the hitting coach. Calhoon was a member of the Woodpeckers staff last year with Rivera and is joining him in his move to Double-A, as will strength coach Kevin Rivera.

High-A Asheville

Manager: Nate Shaver

Pitching Coach: Zach Wilkins

Hitting Coach: TJ Burgmann

Development Coach: Eric Stamets

Athletic Trainer: Eric Pimentel

Strength Coach: Cesar Vina

Shaver is returning to Asheville after being the manager there the previous two seasons. Wilkins gets a promotion going from Fayetteville to Asheville for 2025. Burgmann has been with the Astros for two years and was a hitting coach in the FCL last year. Stamets will be returning for his third season with Asheville.

Single-A Fayetteville

Manager: Carlos Lugo

Pitching Coach: James Wiseman

Hitting Coach: Kyle Brennan

Development Coach: Alfredo Granier

Athletic Trainer: Daniel Gonzalez

Strength Coach: Jordan Small

Lugo has been with the Astros since 2014 in various roles but now gets his chance to manage a full season team. Wiseman begins his second season with the Astros and first in Fayetteville after being in the Florida Complex League last year. Brennan was also part of Lugo’s staff in 2024 and joins him in Fayetteville. Granier has been with the Astros since 2022 and was also with the FCL Astros in 2024.
