Astros Minor League Recap: September 1st

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (82-49) won 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the first inning scoring 2 runs on a Cabbage RBI single and Melton RBI double. In the 3rd, Leon added a 2 run HR. Cabbage added 2 more runs in the 4th on a 2 run double. Blubaugh got the start and pitched well striking out 9 over 5.1 innings allowing 3 runs, though all were unearned. King allowed 2 runs as the Bees got it close but Contreras and Suero had scoreless outings to close out the 6-5 win.

Note: Melton is hitting .425 over his last 12 games.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (49-75) won 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the first scoring 2 runs on a Cerny RBI single and a run on a balk. They got 2 more runs in the 2nd inning on a Cole RBI groundout and Price RBI double. Ullola got the start and tossed 4.2 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts. Dombroski went the final 4 innings allowing 3 runs, but was able to hold on for the win.

Note: Ullola has 151 K in 119 innings this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (50-74) lost 10-0 (BOX SCORE)

Melendez got the start but struggled allowing 6 runs, 2 earned, over 2 innings of work. He was relieved by Almonte who allowed 2 runs in 2 innings. Batista was solid in relief allowing 2 runs over the final 5 innings. The offense was quiet on the night collecting just 5 hits as they were shutout in the 10-0 loss.

Note: Cruz is hitting .275 this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (52-72) lost 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

Marte got the start but struggled allowing 4 runs, 2 earned, over 2.2 innings. He was relieved by Palmer who allowed 2 runs over 0.2 innings. The offense got on the board in the 7th getting a run on a Schiavone RBI double and a run scoring on an error. Rodriguez struck out 7 over 3.2 scoreless in relief but the offense was quiet the rest of the was as the Woodpeckers fell 6-2.

Note: Holy has 15 SB in 18 games this season.
