Astros Minor League Recap: August 21st

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (75-46) won 7-2 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the first inning scoring 3 runs on a Melton sac fly, fielder’s choice, and Corona sac fly. Blubaugh got the start and went 6 innings allowing 2 runs while striking out 6. The offense got 3 more runs in the 3rd on a Bastidas RBI double and a Narvaez 2 run triple. In the 6th, Amaya hit a solo HR to extend the lead.

Note: Montero has a 0.00 ERA in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (41-74) lost 13-1 (BOX SCORE)

Robain got the start and wasn’t helped by his defense has he allowed 11 hits and 10 runs, though just 1 was earned, over 1.2 innings. The offense got on the board in the 4th on a Sacco RBI single. Torres had a scoreless appearance and Hicks struck out 6 over 5 innings allowing 3 runs but the offense was quiet the rest of the way as the Hooks fell 13-1.

Note: Torres has 13 K in 6.1 innings in August.


A+: Asheville Tourists (48-66) won 5-3 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the first scoring 2 runs on a Cruz RBI groundout and Guillemette RBI single. They got 3 more in the second inning on RBI singles from Gomez, Janek and Encarnacion. Batista got the start and went 5 innings allowing 2 runs, both unearned. The pen was solid allowing 1 run as they closed out the 5-3 win.

Note: Gomez is hitting .321 in High-A.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (52-62) won 7-3 (BOX SCORE)

Marte got the start and was solid allowing 1 run over 4.2 innings with 8 strikeouts. The offense broke things open in the 3rrd inning scoring 6 runs on Sullivan and Villarroel RBI singles, Powell 2 run triple, Hernandez RBI double and Schiavone RBI single. They got another run in the 4th on a Bush solo HR. Brito closed it out allowing 2 runs over 4 innings while striking out 5 as the Woodpeckers won 7-3.

Note: Powell is hitting .371 in Single-A.
