Astros Minor League Recap: July 2nd

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (53-30) lost 1-0 (BOX SCORE)

Gusto got the start and pitched really well again allowing 1 run over 6 innings. The pen was solid too tossing 2 scoreless innings. The offense was quiet picking up just 3 hits as they were shutout in the 1-0 loss.

Note: Gusto has a 1.80 ERA since the beginning of June.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (28-48) lost 8-1 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the first inning on a Dezenzo RBI double. Rodriguez got the start and allowed 5 runs over 4 innings of work. Santa allowed 1 run over 3.1 innings but the offense was unable to get anything else going as the Hooks fell 8-1.

Note: Cole has a .728 OPS in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (33-41) lost 12-7 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the first on a Deming RBI double. They got 3 more in the 2nd inning on a Sherwin 2 run HR and Cerny solo HR. Pecko got the start but allowed 6 runs, 5 earned, over 4 innings while striking out 5. The offense got 2 in the 5th on Carrillo and Johnson RBI singles to tie it up. Batista struggled in relief allowing 5 runs as the Drive opened up the lead. Johnson added a solo HR in the 8th but that was it as Asheville fell 12-7.

Note: Cerny has a .790 OPS this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (35-42) lost 11-4 (BOX SCORE

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the 2nd scoring a run on a balk and a Hernandez RBI single. Rodriguez got the start and allowing 5 runs over 2.2 innings. The offense picked up a run in the 5th on a Jaworsky sac fly. Tredwell pitched in relief and allowed 5 runs, 2 earned, over 3.2 innings with 7 strikeouts. Ochoa added an RBI single in the 9th but that was it as Fayetteville lost 11-4.

Note: Ochoa has a .754 OPS this season.
