Astros Minor League Recap: July 1st

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (53-29) lost 11-9 (BOX SCORE)

Henley got the start but struggled allowing 5 runs while retiring just two batters. The offense would battle back getting a solo HR from Hamilton in the 2nd inning and then scoring 5 runs in the 3rd on a passed ball, a Narvaez sac fly and Machado 3 run HR. They got 2 more runs in the 5th on a Narvaez sac fly and Hensley RBI single. Narvaez added a solo HR in the 7th. The pen struggled allowing 6 runs as Round Rock came back to win 11-9.

Note: Hamilton has a .865 OPS this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (28-47) lost 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

Ullola started for the Hooks but struggled allowing 4 runs over 4.2 innings. Price put the Hooks on the board in the 4th with a solo HR. The bullpen pitched well allowing just 1 run but the offense was unable to get anything else going as the Hooks fell 5-1.

Note: Price has a .740 OPS in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (33-40) lost 10-6 (BOX SCORE)

Swanson started for Asheville and struggled allowing 7 runs over 2.2 innings. The offense got on the board with a run in the 3rd on a Deming RBI single. In the 4th, they picked up 3 runs on a Sherwin 2 run double and Baez sac fly. Urias went 5 innings in relief allowing 3 runs and striking out 7. The offense got 2 in the 9th on a Baez RBI single and a run on a wild pitch but that would be it as Asheville fell 10-6.

Note: Baez has 50 RBI this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (35-41) won 13-6 (BOX SCORE

Nezuh started for the Woodpeckers and while he allowed 5 runs, 3 earned, he struck out 9. The offense got on the board right away picking up 3 runs in the first on a Villarroel RBI double and a Jaworsky 2 run double. They got another in the 2nd on a wild pitch and one more in the 3rd on a Bush sac fly. In the 4th, the offense rallied for 2 runs on a Gomez RBI double and Hernandez sac fly. The offense continued to pour on runs scoring 3 in the 5th on a Villarroel RBI single, a run on an error and an Ochoa RBI single. The offense picked up 3 more in the 7th inning on a Villarroel RBI single and Ochoa 2 run HR. Almonte allowed a run in relief and Leach tossed a perfect 9th to close it out.

Note: Nezuh has 88 K in 72.1 innings this season.
