Astros Minor League Recap: July 14th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (58-34) lost 9-4 (BOX SCORE)

Gomez started game one for Sugar Land but struggled a bit allowing 3 runs in 2 innings of work. The offense got on the board in the 1st on a Gittens RBI single. They got 2 more runs in the 3rd on a Narvaez RBI single and Leon sac fly. In the 6th, the offense picked up a run on an error. The pen struggled allowing 6 runs as Sugar Land fell 9-4.

Note: Leon has 17 HR this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (31-55) won 5-3 (BOX SCORE)

Rodriguez started for the Hooks and allowed 3 runs over 4.2 innings, though he struck out 9. The offense tied things up int he 4th scoring 3 runs on an error and a Palma 2 run double. In the 8th, Espinosa gave the Hooks the lead with a 2 run HR. The bullpen was great tossing 4.1 scoreless as they closed out the 5-3 win.

Note: Rodriguez has 57 K in 43.1 innings this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (37-47) lost 8-7 (BOX SCORE)

Pecko started for Asheville and allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, over 4 innings of work. Asheville got on the board in the 5th on a Carrillo solo HR. Then pen allowed 4 runs as the IronBirds extended their lead. Asheville would rally for 4 runs in the 7th on a Baez 2 run double and Deming 2 run HR. In the 8th, they got a run on a Loftin steal of home. Baez connected on a solo HR in the 9th to make it 8-7 but that was it from the offense as Asheville fell 8-7.

Note: Cruz is hitting .285 this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (39-48) lost 5-3 (BOX SCORE

Rodriguez got the start and went 4 innings allowing 3 runs, 2 earned. The Woodpeckers got on the board in the 5th on a Santander inside the park homer and a Villarroel RBI groundout. They tied the game up in the 6th with a run scoring on a wild pitch. Chirinos went 3.2 innings allowing 2 runs, 1 earned. The offense was unable to get anything else going as the Woodpeckers fell 5-3.

Note: Chirinos has a 4.28 ERA this season..
