For this piece, I will highlight the top performers at the plate and on the mound from the previous week of play. Below is the hotlist for Week Seven. Here is last week’s Hotlist.
Who’s Hot At The Plate?
Nehomar Ochoa – Ochoa has really turned things on in the month of May and this week was his best yet. The 18-year-old, one of the youngest players in full-season baseball, hit .455 with 4 doubles and drove in 2 runs for the Woodpeckers.
Pascanel Ferreras – Ferreras, who was the last pick of the 2023 draft, has had a strong season making it to Double-A. He had a strong week connecting on a double, two triples and two homers in 6 games for the Hooks.
Pedro León – Shay continued his hot hitting this week, though for his standards it was a “down” week. In games in Triple-A, Whitcomb hit .333 with a homer, 3 runs batted in and 2 stolen bases. He’s hitting .310 this season.
Colin Barber – It has been a little bit of a struggle this year for Barber due to injuries but he was able to put a nice week together last week. The 23-year-old hit .375 with a homer and a stolen bases in 4 games for the Hooks.
Who’s Hot On The Mound?
A.J. Blubaugh – Blubaugh was ranked as one of the better pitching prospects in the system earlier this year and he continues to earn that designation. This week he struck out 3 over 5 scoreless innings. He has a 2.85 ERA this season.
Ethan Pecko – Pecko was a nice high upside pick last draft and so far this season he has pitched well. The 21-year-old struck out 9 over 5 innings allowing 1 run. He has 38 K in 31.2 innings so far this season.
Blair Henley – Henley got a start with the Astros but has since went back down to Triple-A and had a good outing this week. He went 6 hitless before allowing a single and struck out 5, while walking just 2.
Edinson Batista – Batista has had a good season thus far but had his best outing this week. The right-hander went 6 scoreless innings allowing just 2 hits and striking out 6. This season he has allowed just a .169 batting average against.
Tyler Guilfoil – Guilfoil put together a strong start this last week. The 24-year-old went 5 innings allowing 1 run while striking out 4. Overall this year he has a 3.89 ERA in Double-A.
Misael Tamarez – Tamarez has really been up and down this season, but this week he showed why he is considered a good prospect in the system. The right-hander tossed 5 scoreless innings while striking out 4 in his one start.
