Astros Minor League Recap: May 21st

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (30-16) won 5-3 (BOX SCORE)

Tamarez started for Sugar Land and pitched well tossing 5 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts. The offense got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Hummel sac fly. In the 4th, Whitcomb connected on a 2 run HR. Hamilton added a solo HR in the 5th to extend the lead. Leon would add a solo HR in the 6th, his 9th HR of the season. The pen allowed a few runs but were able to hold on for the 5-3 win.

Note: Whitcomb has a .958 OPS this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (14-26) won 13-10 (BOX SCORE)

Robaina started for the Hooks and allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, over 4.1 innings. The offense got a run in the 4th on an Arocho RBI groundout. The Hooks exploded for 10 runs in the 6th on a Sacco 2 run single, Ferreras 3 run HR, Brewer RBI triple, a run scoring on an error and a Wrobleski 3 run HR. Corona added a 2 run double in the 7th to extend the lead. The pen allowed some runs but were able to hold on for the win.

Note: Ferreras is hitting .333 in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (18-21) won 8-5 (BOX SCORE)

Calderon started for Asheville going 4.1 innings allowing 3 runs, 2 earned. Asheville got on the board in the 2nd on a Loftin RBI single and got another run in the third on a Baez solo HR. Asheville entered the 8th down 5-2 but rallied for 4 runs on a Guillemette sac fly, Encarnacion 2 run single and Williams sac fly. In the 9th, the offense scored 2 more runs on 2 run single.

Note: Garcia is hitting .278 this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (19-21) lost 6-5 (BOX SCORE

Rodriguez started for the Woodpeckers and went 3 innings allowing 2 runs. The Woodpeckers got on the board in the 6th scoring 2 runs on a Gomez RBI triple and Santander RBI groundout. Marte pitched in relief and pitched well allowing 1 run over 5.1 innings while striking out 6. Fayetteville tied thing up in the 9th on a Casserilla RBI double. In the 10th, the Woodpeckers scored 2 runs on Carrillo RBI triple and he lated scored on a passed ball. Unfortunately the bullpen was able to hold it as the Red Sox walked off with the 6-5 win.

Note: Carrillo has a .788 OPS this season.
