Astros Minor League Recap: April 26th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (17-8) won 8-1 (BOX SCORE)

Henley started for Sugar Land and pitched really well allowing 1 run over 6 innings of work. Sugar Land was able to tie the game in the top of the 6th on a wild pitch. The offense blew it open in the 7th scoring 6 runs on an Amaya bases loaded walk, three runs scoring on wild pitches, a Leon RBI groundout and a Whitcomb RBI single. Hensley added another run in the 8th on an RBI double.

Note: Whitcomb is hitting .284 this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (5-14) lost 7-5 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got off to a good start scoring 2 runs in the first on a Sacco solo HR and Barber RBI single. Guilfoil started for the Hooks but struggled allowing 5 runs in the first, and 6 runs overall in 4.1 innings. The Hooks got another run in the 4th on a Barber solo HR. The Hooks got close in the 7th scoring two runs on RBI groundouts. Midland added another run in the 8th to go up 7-5 and the offense was unable to complete the comeback as the Hooks dropped this one.

Note: Barber is hitting .283 this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (8-10) won 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Calderon got the start for Asheville and went 4.2 innings allowing 3 runs. The offense got on the board in the 4th inning scoring 2 runs on a Cerny RBI double and another run on an error. In the top of the 6th, Cerny tied the game up with a solo HR but Hickory quickly retook a one run lead. In the 9th, the Asheville offense rallied getting a Ferreras solo HR and another run on a fielder’s choice to take a 5-4 lead. Dombroski went the final 4 innings allowing 1 unearned run and striking out 6 as he picked up the win.

Note: Ferreras has a .846 OPS this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (12-7) won 3-1 (BOX SCORE)

Mejia started for the Woodpeckers and went 3.2 scoreless innings picking up 6 strikeouts. The offense got on the board in the bottom of the 3rd on a Daniels RBI groundout. After the Wood Ducks tied it up in the 5th, the Woodpeckers would rally. In the 7th inning, the offense picked up 2 runs on RBI singles from Luciano and Nunez. True went the final five innings allowing just 1 unearned run and striking out 8 as he closed the door on the 3-1 win.

Note: True has 23 K in 16.2 innings this season.
