Astros Minor League Recap: June 8th

Another day of minor league action is in the book. See the results below.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (26-34) won 6-3 (BOX SCORE)

Solis started for Sugar Land and pitched well striking out 7 over 6 innings while allowing 2 runs. Whitcomb put Sugar Land on the board in the 3rd inning with a 3 run HR, his 14th HR of the season. In the 4th, Hensley added a 2 run double. They got another run in the 7th on a Hamilton solo HR. Hansen closed it out allowing 1 run over the final 3 innings.

Note: Whitcomb has 14 HR, 40 RBI overall this season.

  • Jairo Solis, RHP: 6.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K (WIN)
  • Austin Hansen, RHP: 3.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K (SAVE)

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (26-28) won 13-4 (BOX SCORE)

The offense got on the board in the 3rd scoring 2 runs on Corona RBI single and a run scoring on a balk. They blew things open in the 4th scoring 7 runs on a Correa RBI double, Corona 2 run double, Loperfido RBI single and Daniels 3 runs HR. Kouba got the start and struck out 9 over 4.2 innings while allowing 3 runs. The offense got 2 more in the 6th on a Correa RBI single and Aviles sac fly and in the 7th, Loperfido added 2 more on a 2 run HR. Taveras tossed 3.1 scoreless in relief and the pen closed out the 13-4 win.

Note: Dezenzo is hitting .378 in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (23-27) lost 3-1 (BOX SCORE)

Knorr got the start and pitched well allowing 2 runs, 1 earned over 5 innings with 10 strikeouts. Clifford scored the lone run for the Tourists on a solo HR in the 7th inning. Cobos went 3 innings in relief allowing 1 unearned run but the offense was unable to get anything else going.

Note: Knorr has 65 K in 43.2 innings this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (22-32) won 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

Swanson started for the Woodpeckers and was great allowing 1 run over 6 innings of work. Lorenzo put the offense on the board with an RBI single in the 4th. The offense rallied for 4 runs in 6th on a Gaston RBI single, Molina 2 run single, and Encarnacion sac fly. Balogh added an RBI single in the 9th. The pen allowed 1 run as they held on for the win.

Note: Swanson has a 2.68 ERA this season.
