Astros Minor League Recap: July 21st, 2021

Another day of minor league baseball is in the books and you can see all the Astros affiliates results below.

AAA: Sugar Land Skeeters (37-28) OFF


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (30-38) lost 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Daniels started for the Hooks and allowed 3 runs over 4 innings of work. The Hooks first run came on an RBI double from Hensley in the first. They got another run in the 5th on a Perez RBI single. Tejada tossed a scoreless inning in relief and then Bermudez tossed 3 scoreless innings keeping it a 3-2 game. The offense was unable to score again as they lost 3-2.

Note: Tejada has 48 K in 32 innings this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (28-38) lost 13-4 (BOX SCORE)

Cody got the start in this one and allowed 6 runs in 4 innings. He was relieved by Ceballos who allowed 4 runs in 1.1 innings of work. The Tourists finally got on the board in the 5th on a Whitcomb solo HR and a Valdez RBI double. Casey allowed 3 runs in relief as the Crawdads extended their lead. The Tourists picked up 2 more runs on a wild pitch and a Barefoot ground out but it wasn’t enough as they lost 13-2.

Note: Whitcomb has .866 OPS with 13 HR this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (29-39)

Game 1 – lost 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Barry started and allowed 2 runs in the first retiring just one batter. The Woodpeckers took the lead in the 3rd on a Rodriguez 2 run single and Martinez RBI single. Betances tossed 2.2 scoreless in relief of Barry. Robaina went 4 innings in relief allowing 3 runs. The Woodpeckers got a run in the 7th on a Dirden RBI groundout but failed to score again lost 5-4.

Game 2 – lost 15-2 (BOX SCORE)

Gomez got the start and got roughed up allowing 14 runs in 2.1 innings. The Woodpeckers got 2 runs in the 6th on a Hurtado RBI single and Martinez RBI groundout. Jaquez pitched well in relief but the Woodpeckers were unable to score anything else as they dropped game 2.
