Astros Minor League Recap: June 11th, 2021

Another day of minor league baseball is in the books and you can see all the Astros affiliates results below.

AAA: Sugar Land Skeeters (20-11) lost 7-0 (BOX SCORE)

Torres got the start for the Skeeters and last just 1.2 innings allowing 4 runs. He was relieved by Martinez who allowed a run over 2 innings. Martes also pitched in his second game this season and he allowed 2 runs in 1 inning of work. Scrubb, Ferrel, Velasquez and De Goti (position player pitching) all had scoreless innings. The offense struggled though picking up just 4 hits and no runs as they lost 7-0.

Note: Toro is hitting .333 with 7 RBI in June.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (16-17) won 8-3 (BOX SCORE)

Bermudez started for the Hooks and went 4 innings allowing 2 runs with 4 strikeouts. The Hooks got on the board in the 4th getting a 3 run HR from Matijevic and a solo HR from Gonzalez. In the 5th they added two more runs on a Kessinger bases loaded HBP and a Stubbs RBI single. Gonzalez continued his hot hitting in the 6th with an RBI single to extend the lead. Serrano relieved Bermudez and allowed 1 run over 2 innings. McKee was up next and he tossed 2 scoreless innings. Stubbs added an RBI single in the 9th for another insurance run. Tejada came out to close it and struck out two in a scoreless 9th.

Note: Matijevic is hitting .361 with 3 HR, 13 RBI in June.


A+: Asheville Tourists (14-18) POSTPONED


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (14-19)

Game 1 – won 10-9 (BOX SCORE)

This was a continuation of the suspended game from Thursday. Schroeder started and allowed 5 runs as the Woodpeckers found themselves down 5-0 early. They responded getting 4 runs in the 3rd on RBI singles from Whitcomb, Ramirez, Correa and Urdaneta. In the 4th, Brewer added a sac fly. The Woodpeckers went into the 6th down 6-5 but Arias tied it up with a solo HR. Berryhill gave the Woodpeckers the lead in the 7th with a sac fly. In the 8th, they picked up another 3 runs on a Brewer RBI single, Ramirez RBI triple and a Ramirez steal of home. Tamarez and Plumlee had scoreless outings in relief and Garcia, despite allowing 3 runs, closed it out in the 9th.

Game 2 – lost 4-0 (BOX SCORE)

Taveras started game 2 and went 4 innings allowing just 1 run. He was relieved by Drennan who allowed 3 runs over 3 innings of work. The offense was quiet though collecting just four singles and no runs as they dropped game 2, 4-0.
