Astros Minor League Recap: May 5th, 2021

Another day of minor league baseball is in the books and you can see all the Astros affiliates results below.

AAA: Sugar Land Skeeters – NO GAME


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (1-1) won 4-2 (BOX SCORE)

France got the start for the Hooks and had a dominant night. He allowed 2 runs over 6 innings while racking up 11 strikeouts. The Hooks got their first run in the 4th on a Manea RBI single. In the bottom of the 6th, Kessinger connected on a 2 run shot to give the Hooks a 3-2 lead. Paredes made a rehab appearance and tossed a scoreless 7th inning. Julks added a little insurance with an RBI double in the 8th. Beck closed it out with 2 scoreless innings and 5 strikeouts.

  • Enoli Paredes, RHP: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
  • Hunter Peck, LHP: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K (SAVE)

A+: Asheville Tourists (1-1) won 6-1 (BOX SCORE)

McDonald got the start for the Tourists but went just 1 scoreless inning. Not sure if it was injury related or not. The Tourists got their first run in the first inning on a Schreiber RBI triple. McDonald was relieved by Casey who tossed 4 scoreless innings. The Tourists blew the game open a bit in the 4th scoring 4 runs on a Lee RBI groundout and a 3 run single from Valdez. Cody tossed 3 innings in relief allowing just 1 run. The Tourists picked up another run in the 8th on a Rodriguez RBI single. Conn came in for the 9th inning and closed it out with a scoreless inning.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (0-2) lost 5-3 (BOX SCORE)

Moclair made his 2021 debut for the Woodpeckers as he tossed 4 scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts. The Woodpeckers picked up their first run on a wild pitch in the 5th inning. Jimenez relieved Moclair but allowed 3 runs in 2.2 innings. Urdaneta brought the Woodpeckers closer as he connected on a solo HR in the top of the 8th. Mezquita relieved Jimenez but faced some tough luck as he allowed 2 unearned runs and the Mudcats extended their lead to 5-2. The Woodpeckers got one run back in the 9th, but fell 5-3.
