Astros Minor League Playoff Recap: September 6th, 2018

Another day of minor league baseball in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (2-0) won 7-5 (BOX SCORE)

Thornton started for Fresno and struck out 9 over 5 innings. The offense got on the board in the 2nd scoring 2 runs on a Ritchie RBI double and Straw RBI single. Tanielu added a solo HR to make it 3-1 in the 5th. De Goti connected on a solo HR in the 6th inning. The offense added some insurance runs scoring 3 in the 9th on a Tanielu RBI single and Stubbs 2 run single. El Paso tried to rally scoring 3 in the 9th but McCurry was able to hold on for the win to take a 2-0 lead in the five game series.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (2-0) won 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

Martin started for the Hooks and dominated striking out 9 over 5.2 scoreless innings. McCormick put the Hooks on the board with a leadoff HR in the first inning. In the 3rd inning, McCormick connected on another HR, this time a 2 run shot. Wrenn continued the scoring hitting a solo HR in the 5th inning. Scheetz relieved Martin and was solid in relief and Blanco came out to pitch the final two innings to close it out. The Hooks have a 2-0 lead in the 5 game series.


A+: Buies Creek Astros (2-0) won 3-1 (BOX SCORE)

Hernandez started for Buies Creek and dominated as he allowed just 1 run over 7.1 innings while striking out 9. Beer put Buies Creek on the board with an RBI double in the 4th inning. Julks put the Astros on top 3-1 with a 2 run HR in the 6th inning. McKee closed it out striking out 3 over 1.2 scoreless innings.


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (0-2) lost 7-2 (BOX SCORE)

Quick exit for the River Bandits as they were eliminated from the playoffs with last night’s loss. They took an early lead in the 3rd on a Costes RBI double and a run scoring on an error. Donato started and pitched well allowing 1 run over 5 innings. Unfortunately, the bullpen really struggled allowing 4 runs in the 6th and 2 in the 7th to fall behind 7-2. The offense was unable to respond.


A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (2-0) won 8-4 (BOX SCORE)

Tri-City is moving onto the championship series.
