Astros Minor League Recap: August 7th, 2018

Another day of minor league baseball in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (66-49) won 15-14 (BOX SCORE)

Crazy game for Fresno last night. Fresno got on the board in the first on a Reed RBI double. They got 2 in the second on a Tanielu 2 run HR and 2 more in the 3rd on a Mayfield RBI triple and Reed sac fly. Sneed started for the Grizzlies but struggled allowing 7 runs in 1.1 innings. Mayfield added a solo HR in the 5th which made it 8-6. Tucker continued his hot streak connecting on a 2 run HR (16) in the 7th to tie it at 8. Fresno then exploded for 7 runs in the 8th on a Tucker RBI single, Mayfield 2 run double, Reed 3 run HR and another run scoring on an error. The bullpen almost gave it back allowing 3 in the 8th and 3 in the 9th but Ferrell came on and got the last out to seal it.

Note: Tanielu is hitting .341 with 2 HR, 6 RBI over his last 10 games.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (69-45) won 4-1 (BOX SCORE)

Hartman continued his hot pitching going 5 innings allowing 1 run while striking out 6. The Hooks scored 2 runs in the 2nd inning on a Birk 2 run double. They would get 2 more in the 5th on a Dawson solo HR and another run scoring on an error. Bostick relieved Hartman and was great tossing 4 no-hit innings with 6 strikeouts to save it.

Note: Dawson is hitting .292 with 5 XBH in 6 AA games.

A+: Buies Creek Astros (64-49) won 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

Valdez started for Buies Creek and was solid allowing 1 run over 5 innings. He was relieved by Solomon who struck out 6 over 4 shutout innings. The offense was quiet until they 9th when they tied the game on a bases loaded walk from Matijevic. The game would go to extra innings and Buies Creek opened up a nice lead scoring 4 runs in the 5th on a Julks 2 run double and Matijevic 2 run HR. Paredes closed it out with 2 scoreless innings to get the win.
