Astros Minor League Recap: August 5th, 2018

Another day of minor league baseball in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (64-49) lost 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

James started for Fresno and was solid turning in a quality start as he allowed 3 runs over 6 innings with 7 strikeouts. The offense jumped out to an early lead scoring one in the first on a Reed RBI single. They picked up 2 runs in the 3rd on a Ritchie 2 run double. Reed added a 2 run double in the 4th to make it 5-0. Deetz relieved James and Memphis to tie it with 2 in the 8th. The game would go to extras and Memphis won it on a walk-off RBI single off of McCurry.

Note: James has 42 BB/154 K in 99 innings this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (68-45) lost 6-1 (BOX SCORE)

Martin started for the Hooks but struggled a bit allowing 5 runs over 6 innings. The offense had 8 hits but managed just 1 run on a Wrenn sac fly in the 2nd inning. Pinales and Blanco had scoreless outings in relief but the offense was unable to score anything else.

Note: Correa is hitting .300 in 3 rehab games.


A+: Buies Creek Astros (63-49) won 17-2 (BOX SCORE)

Buies Creek offense exploded in this one. They scored 6 runs in the first inning on a Meyers solo HR, De La Cruz 2 run single, Adams RBI single, Arauz RBI double and another run scoring on an error. They picked up one in the 2nd on a Robinson RBI triple and then put the game out of reach with 4 in the 3rd on an Arauz RBI triple and Julks 3 run double. LaRue started for Buies Creek and had a good outing tossing 5 scoreless innings. The offense wasn’t done though as they would pick 6 more in the 8th on a Bohanek 2 run double and a Matijevic grand slam, his 15th HR of the season. The bullpen gave up a couple of runs but the offense did more than enough to win it.

Note: Robinson is hitting .395 with 3 HR, 13 RBI over his last 10 games.


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (63-49) lost 8-7 (BOX SCORE)

Rodriguez started for the River Bandits and was solid allowing 2 runs over 5.1 innings. Quad Cities picked up a run in the first on an Angarita sac fly. They got another in the 2nd on a Costes RBI single. In the 4th the offense scored 3 runs on a Taylor RBI single and 2 runs scoring on wild pitches. Paulino relieved Rodriguez but really struggled allowing 5 runs over 1.1 innings. Quad Cities went into the 9th down 8-5 but rallied with a Shaver 2 run HR making it 8-7. Unfortunately, they were unable to push across another run and lost by that score.

Note: Castros is hitting .351 with 7 RBI over his last 10 games.


A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (26-22) lost 6-2 (BOX SCORE)
