Astros Minor League Recap: August 25th, 2018

Another day of minor league baseball in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (76-55) won 7-6 (BOX SCORE)

James started and went 5 innings allowing 4 runs, 3 earned. The Grizzlies got on the board with a 2 run shot from Reed in the first inning. They were scoreless for the rest of the game and entered the bottom of the 9th down 6-2. The Grizzlies rallied getting an RBI single from De Goti and an RBI groundout from Straw to make it 6-4. With two on, Salt Lake brought in a lefty to face Tucker. It didn’t matter though as Tucker stayed hot and hit a walk-off 3 run HR to win it and clinch the Pacific Northern Division.

Note: Tucker is hitting .556 with 9 HR, 18 RBI over his last 8 games.

  • Ralph Garza, RHP: 3.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
  • Cionel Perez, LHP: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K (WIN)

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (78-51) won 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Martin started and struck out 9 over 5.2 innings while allowing 3 runs, 1 earned. The Hooks got on the board in the 3rd on a Dawson RBI groundout. In the 5th the Hooks took the lead on a Dawson 3 run HR, his 16th of the season. San Antonio picked up a run in the 9th to force the game to extras. In the bottom of the 10th, Dawson capped off his big night with a walk-off RBI double.

Note: Martin has a 2.33 ERA with 117 K in 116 innings this season.


A+: Buies Creek Astros (73-55) lost 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Rough night for the offense as they managed just 3 hits and 1 run. Hernandez tossed a complete game on just 88 pitches and allowed 2 runs, though both were unearned. Unfortunately he didn’t get any other run support and they dropped this one 2-1.

Note: Hernandez has a 2.63 ERA in 51.1 innings this season.


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (75-57) won 8-2 (BOX SCORE)

The River Bandits opened this game up in the 4th scoring 5 runs on a Dawson RBI single, Lacroix 3 run double, and another run scoring on an error. Donato started and pitched well again striking out 10 over 5.2 innings while allowing 2 runs. Lacroix added a 2 run double in the 8th and McKenna connected on a solo HR in the 9th for a little insurance. Duncan and Mushinski closed it out with scoreless outings.

Note: Donato has a 1.87 ERA with 87 K in 71.2 innings this season.


A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (37-28) lost 4-0 (BOX SCORE)
