Astros Minor League Recap: July 22nd, 2018

Another day of minor league baseball in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (58-43) won 10-4 (BOX SCORE)

Thornton got the start and dominated striking out 10 over 5 innings while allowing just 1 run. Mayfield got the scoring started with a solo HR in the 2nd. The Grizzlies scored 4 runs in the 4th on a Tanielu RBI single, Stubbs 2 run double, and Straw RBI single. White added a solo HR in the 7th, his 14th of the season. A White RBI groundout and Fisher RBI single capped the scoring for the Grizzlies. Giles, Guduan, and Deetz closed it out with scoreless outings.

Note: Mayfield is hitting .353 over his last 9 games.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (63-36) lost 8-4 (BOX SCORE)

Bostick started for the Hooks and was really good allowing 1 unearned run over 5 innings while striking out 6. The Hooks got on the board first with a steal of home in the 3rd inning. Alcala relieved Bostick and allowed 3 runs in just 0.2 innings. Blanco relieved Alcala and allowed 4 runs himself. Corpus Christi picked up 2 runs in the 7th on a Benedetti 2 run HR and another in the 8th on on a Sierra groundout. Unfortunately, they couldn’t get anything else going and lost 8-4.

Note: De Goti is hitting .467 with 6 RBI over his last 9 games.


A+: Buies Creek Astros (57-43) won 10-3 (BOX SCORE)

Crazy game in Buies Creek yesterday. The Astros jumped out to a 7-0 lead scoring all 7 in the 3rd inning on a Meyers RBI double, Duarte RBI single, Dawson RBI double, and a Robinson grand slam. Sandoval started and allowed 2 runs in 5 innings of work. Saldana relieved Sandoval and allowed 5 runs as Down East tied it at 7. Robinson came through again in the 8th with a 3 run HR, his 2nd of the game. McKee picked up the save with a scoreless 9th.

Note: Robinson is hitting .458 with 3 HR, 11 RBI over his last 6 games.


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (54-45) lost 6-4 (BOX SCORE)

Donato started for the River Bandits and allowed 4 runs in 4 innings of work. Quad Cities got on the board in the 3rd on a Beer solo HR, his 7th, and a Shaver RBI single. The River Bandits tied it in the 6th getting 2 runs on a Sierra RBI double and Mattix sac fly. Duncan allowed 2 runs to West Michigan in the 7th and the offense was unable to respond losing 6-4.

Note: Beer is hitting .326 with 1.001 OPS in 34 games this season.
