Astros Minor League Recap: May 6th, 2018

Another day of minor league baseball in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (19-12) lost 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

Trent Thornton made the start for Fresno last night and allowed 3 runs over his 6 innings of work, though he did have 8 strikeouts. Reed got the Grizzlies on the board with an RBI single in the bottom of the 6th. The Grizzlies would enter the 9th down 6-1 but would put together a rally. A Nunez RBI single, Ferguson, RBI single, and Davis 2 run single made it 6-5 but Reed would ground out with 2 on as Fresno fell 6-5.

Note: Davis is hitting .475 with 13 RBI over his last 10 games.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (17-13) lost 4-1 (BOX SCORE)

Corpus Christi fell behind early with San Antonio picking up 1 run in the 1st and 2nd inning. Hartman made the start and was solid allowing just 2 runs over 5 innings. The Hooks got on the board in the 7th on a Rojas sac fly to make it 2-1. Dykxhoorn relieved Hartman and allowed 2 runs. The Hooks were unable to score again and dropped this one 4-1.

Note: Cesar is hitting .371 with 6 RBI over his last 9 games.

A+: Buies Creek Astros (18-12) lost 5-3 (BOX SCORE)

Buies Creek first got on the board in the 2nd on a Robinson RBI single. Hector Perez got the start and struggled allowing 4 runs and walking 4 in 4.2 innings of work. The Astros picked up another run in the 9th on a Dawson RBI single but weren’t able to complete the comeback. Valdez allowed 1 run in 3.1 innings pitched.

Note: Sieber is hitting .353 with 8 RBI in his last 10 games.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (16-12) won 2-0 (BOX SCORE)

Quad Cities only scored in one inning getting 2 runs in the 5th on a Julks RBI single and Matijevic RBI double. That was all the pitching needed as Paredes closed it out with 3 shutout innings to get the save.
