Astros Minor League Recap: May 25th, 2018

Another day of minor league baseball in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (29-20) won 5-0 (BOX SCORE)

Cy Sneed got the start for Fresno last night and was phenomenal tossing 8 shutout innings allowing just 2 hits while picking up 7 strikeouts. Stubbs got the scoring started with a leadoff HR in the first. Reed added a 2 run HR in the first to make it 3-0. In the 2nd, Stubbs had a sac fly to make it 4-0. Ferguson added some insurance with an RBI double in the 6th as the Grizzlies went on to win 5-0.

Note: Reed has 4 HR, 9 RBI and 12 BB/6 SO over his last 10 games.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (27-21) lost 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Cionel Perez has been racking up the strikeouts and last night was no different as he recorded 10 in 4.2 innings. Perez did allow 1 run in the 5th, the only run he gave up during his outing. Justin Ferrell pitched in relief and was great with 4.1 scoreless innings. The Hooks tied the game up in the 8th on a Jones RBI double. Tulsa scored a run in the 10th and was able to take this one in 10 innings.

Note: Perez last 4 outings – 18.2 IP, 9 H, 3 ER, 5 BB, 31 K


A+: Buies Creek Astros (27-21) won 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

Another great start last night. Brandon Bailey tossed 6 scoreless innings picking up 4 strikeouts. Matijevic got the Astros on the board with a sac fly in the 1st inning. In the sixth Buies Creek picked up 3 runs on a Toro RBI double and Payano 2 run single. Scheetz tossed 2 scoreless and Blanco closed out the 9th allowing 1 run.

Note: Scheetz has 6 BB/43 K in 28.1 innings this season.


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (26-21) won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

And more good pitching in the system last night. Solomon got the start and allowed just 1 run over his 5 innings of work. The River Bandits picked up a run in the first on a Sierra RBI triple and another in the 2nd on Garcia RBI single. Ivey relieved Solomon and allowed just 1 unearned run in 4 innings to pick up the save.

Note: Solomon last 5 outings – 21.0 IP, 14 H, 3 ER, 7 BB, 25 K
