Astros Minor League Recap: April 6th, 2018

Another day of minor league baseball in the books, and it was a little better day than opening night for the Astros minor league squads. See the results below.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (0-2) lost 8-4 (BOX SCORE)

Thornton got the start last night and ran into some early trouble when he allowed four runs (all unearned) in the 3rd inning. The Grizzlies entered the 6th inning down 5-0 but rallied scoring 5 runs on a Tucker 2 run HR (first AAA HR), White solo HR and Mayfield solo HR. The offense didn’t get much else going as those were the only 4 runs they score during the game. Guduan and Boshers did have scoreless outings for Fresno in relief.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (1-1) won 11-9 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks picked up their first win in pretty stunning fashion.  They started off the game well scoring 3 runs in the first inning on a Tanielu RBI groundout and 2 run double from Jones. Dykxhoorn got the start and was very good going 4.1 innings allowing just 2 hits and 1 unearned run. In the top of the 5th the Hooks picked up another run on an Alvarez sac fly making it 4-0. NW Arkansas then proceeded to jump all over the Hooks bullpen putting up 9 runs in the 5th, 6th and 7th innings. Corpus would rally though getting one run in the 8th on a Straw RBI single before exploding for 6 in the 9th thanks to two RBI walks, a DeGoti 3 run triple and a Benedetti RBI single. Garza closed out the game with two scoreless innings.

A+: Buies Creek Astros (0-2) lost 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Buies Creek got off to a nice start scoring a run in the first inning on a Toro-Hernandez sac fly. Alcala got the start last night but struggled early giving up 3 runs in the first inning and another in the second inning. Scheetz and Saldana relieved Alcala and both had scoreless outings. The Astros picked up a run in the 3rd and another in the 6th on a McCormick RBI triple but were unable to score again dropping this one 4-3.
