Astros Minor League Recap: April 8th, 2017

Another night of minor league play is in the books with all four minor league teams in action. See how the teams and prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (2-1) won 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Holmes was on the mound for the Grizzlies last night. He went 5.1 innings allowing 3 runs with 4 strikeouts. Fresno got on the board in the 2nd inning with a bases loaded walk to Centeno. They entered the 6th inning down 3-1 but AJ Reed hit a solo HR to inch closer, his first homer of the season. They would give up another run and go into the 8th inning down 4-2. With the bases loaded and two outs, Kemp came through with a clutch 2 run single to tie the game at 4. The game would stay tied going to the bottom of the 9th. This time it was Brignac coming through with the 2 out hit, a walk-off RBI single scoring White. James Hoyt picked up the win with a scoreless 9th.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (2-1) won 6-1 (BOX SCORE)

Corpus gets back on track with a solid win. Deetz made his season debut and was great striking out 8 over 5 innings while allowing just 1 hit and 1 run. In three Double-A starts (2 last season) he has gone 17 IP, 8 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 25 K. Corpus got on the board in the top of the 2nd when Woodward drove in Singleton with an RBI single. The Hooks would play add on in the 5th with an RBI single from Stubbs and a 2 run single from Singleton. Dorris relieved Deetz and pitched a scoreless 6th and 7th inning. Singleton led off the 8th with a solo homer, his first of the year, and Mayfield add an RBI double to cap it off. Comer pitched the final two innings without allowing a run and striking out four.

  • Jacob Dorris, RHP: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
  • Kevin Comer, RHP: 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K

A+: Buies Creek Astros (3-0) won 9-4 (BOX SCORE)

Bower made his season debut last night and struggled a bit allowing 4 runs in 3.1 innings pitched. After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the first, Buies Creek responded with four of their own thank to a 3 run triple from Birk and a Hermelyn RBI single. In the bottom of the 3rd, Tucker connected on a solo HR, his first homer of the season to make it a 5-4 game. Michelena added an RBI single in the 6th and in the 7th they added three more with a sac fly from Birk and an RBI double from Hermelyn. Hernandez pitched the final three innings in dominant fashion, allowing just 1 hit, no runs, and five strikeouts.


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (1-2) lost 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

The Astros 4th round pick from 2016, Adcock, made his season debut last night and was great tossing 4.2 scoreless innings with 8 strikeouts. The River Bandits got on the board in the 5th thanks to a Rogers RBI groundout. They added another run in the 6th on a Cesar RBI single. Unfortunately, Wisconsin tied the game with two in the 7th and took the lead with 1 in the 8th and Quad Cities was unable to strike back.
