Astros Minor League Recap: April 11th, 2017

Three of the four minor league teams in action last night. See how the teams and prospects performed in their games yesterday.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (3-3) lost 21-6 (BOX SCORE)

I won’t go into much detail here. This game got out of hand quick and saw three position players pitch for Fresno. Martinez started and allowed 7 runs in 4.1 innings. He was relieved by Mortensen who allowed 8 runs in 1.2 innings. Aplin, White, and Brignac all pitched for the Grizzlies. On offense they got multi-hit games from Kemp, Tucker, and Kemmer.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (4-2) lost 12-3 (BOX SCORE)

Sneed got the start and after a clean first, he had a rough second inning allowing 7 runs only getting 1 out in that inning. Corpus would get one in the third on an RBI single from Davis. Unfortunately, NW Arkansas got four in the 3rd and 5th to extend the lead. Corpus would get two more in the 9th on a Nunez RBI hit by pitch and a Laureano RBI single. Dorris allowed 1 run over his 3 innings of work in relief.

A+: Buies Creek Astros (5-1) lost 7-3 (BOX SCORE)

Buies Creek loses for the first time in 2017. They got on the board first when Straw walked and came around to score on a wild pitch. Hernandez got roughed up a bit allowing 3 runs in the second and another 2 runs in the 4th. BC would rally with a Sewald RBI double and a Straw RBI single in the 2nd but that is all they would get for runs. Thome had a solid outing in relief tossing 3.1 scoreless innings.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (3-3)

GAME 1 – won 2-0 (BOX SCORE)

The Astros first round pick from 2016, Whitley, made his full season debut and was fantastic. He finished tossing five scoreless innings allowing just 1 hit with 6 strikeouts. Quad Cities got their scoring started in the first when Cameron double and later scored on a Dawson sac-fly. Sierra added an RBI double in the 4th to make it 2-0. Carlos Sierra relieved Whitley and closed out the game with two scoreless innings.

GAME 2 – lost 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Alcala made his season debut and was fantastic allowing just 1 hit in the first four innings. He ran into some trouble in the 5th allowing 2 runs but still finished with a solid line. He was relieved by Velazquez who allowed 1 run, unfortunately it was the winning run. On the offensive side, Benedetti had an RBI single and Cameron had a sac fly but it wasn’t enough as Peoria won in a walk-off in the 7th.

Today’s starters according to MiLB.com:

FRE: Keegan Yuhl (27.00 ERA)

CC: OFF

BC: Akeem Bostick (0.00 ERA)

QC: TBD
