Houston Astros Minor League Recap: September 2nd

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (70-70) won 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

Fresno’s fall continues as they have lost 17 of their last 22 games. Grills got the start last night allowing 4 runs, 2 earned, over 6 innings of work. Heineman added an RBI double in the 6th inning to get Fresno on the board but that was the only run they would get. Garcia had another 3 hit game raising his AAA average to .388.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (82-55) lost 7-6 (BOX SCORE)

Armenteros got the start for the Hooks and had his worst start in AA, though it wasn’t that bad. He allowed 4 runs, 3 earned over 5.1 innings. Corpus jumped out to a big 4-0 lead getting 4 runs in the 3rd inning on a Tanielu 2 run HR, Laureano RBI single, and Gregor RBI single. McDonald added an RBI single in the 5th to take a 5-2 lead. Frisco would battle back though to take a 7-5 lead. McDonald added another RBI single in the 9th to make it 7-6 but they lost by this score.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (75-62) won 4-1 (BOX SCORE)

Solid win for Lancaster. Bostick started for the Jethawks and pitched well tossing 6 innings and allowing just 1 unearned run. Lancaster got 2 runs in the 1st inning on back to back to back doubles from Straw, Tucker, and Muniz and another double from Martin two batters later. Martin added an RBI double in the 5th inning. McCanna tossed two scoreless innings in relief and Thome picked up his 4th save with a scoreless 9th.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (60-76) lost 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Tough loss in a well pitched game. Chavez pitched the first six innings allowing three runs with 9 strikeouts. Michelena came through with an RBI groundout in the 2nd inning to make it a 2-1 game.
