Houston Astros Minor League Recap: August 31st

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (70-68) lost 5-0 (BOX SCORE)

Fresno falls to just two games above .500. Rodgers got the start last night but only pitched two innings before being pulled. It does not appear to injury related. It could be related to a potential call-up with roster’s expanding today. The offense overall had a rough night managing only three hits, all singles.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (82-53) won 4-2 (BOX SCORE)

Thornton has been fantastic since being promoted to Double-A and last night was no different. Thornton went 8 innings allowing just 2 runs and did so on just 84 pitches. Corpus got on the board in the 4th inning on a Hyde sac fly scoring Ferguson. A Gregor RBI triple in the 6th inning tied the game at two. In the 7th inning, Davis drew a bases loaded walk to take a 3-2 lead. The Hooks added one more on a Pena RBI groundout in the 8th. Dorris closed the game striking out 2 in a scoreless 9th.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (74-61) won 15-1 (BOX SCORE)

Big time win for Lancaster. Dykxhoorn made his final regular season start this season and went out with a bang. He tossed 7 scoreless innings striking out 8. Lancaster scored early and often in this one. They got the scoring started on a Tucker RBI double in the first, and he came around to score on a groundout. In the 3rd inning, Tucker added another RBI double. Lancaster blew the game open with a 5 run 6th thanks to a 3 run triple from Mizell, Duarte RBI single, and a Straw sac fly. Martin added an RBI double in the 7th and he came around to score on a Ritchie sac fly. They would finish their night with 4 runs on the 8th on another RBI double from Tucker and a 3 run HR from Martin, his 23rd HR of the season.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (59-75) lost 5-2 (BOX SCORE)

Another rough night for the Quad Cities offense. Wrenn connected on a 2 run HR in the 3rd inning and that would be the only runs they would get. Valdez got the start and pitched well going 6.2 innings allowing 2 earned runs. Hernandez came in and gave up 5 hits and a couple unearned runs. The offense was unable to get anything back.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (35-36) lost 5-3 (BOX SCORE)

ROOKIE: Greeneville Astros (33-34) won 6-2 (BOX SCORE)
