Astros Minor League Playoff Recap: September 7th

The minor league playoffs got started for Corpus and Lancaster last night. Let’s take a look at how the teams and prospects performed.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (0-1) lost 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

Hooks fall in the first game of the playoffs. Martes got the start and gave up 10 hits and 3 runs over his 6 innings of work. Corpus went into the 6th down 3-0 but started to rally. They got one run in the 6th inning on a Tanielu solo HR. In the 7th, Stubbs added an RBI single to cut the deficit to 3-2. The game stayed 3-2 headed to the 9th but Midland tacked on three more and Corpus was unable to put anything else together. The Hooks managed 12 hits and 5 walks but were only able to scrape across the two runs.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (0-1) lost 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Wild game last night. The Jethawks got the scoring started on a Mizell solo HR in the 3rd inning but Rancho Cucamonga tied it up in the bottom of the inning. Lancaster got another run in the 5th on a Sewald RBI single but Rancho would respond once again. Dykxhoorn got the start and went 7 innings allowing 2 runs with 7 strikeouts. Lancaster once again took the lead in the 8th on Ritchie RBI double, but once again Rancho tied it back up immediately. McCanna tosses 4 innings in relief allowing just 1 unearned run. The game would stay tied at 3 until the 16th thanks to 3 scoreless innings from Thome. In the bottom of the 16th, Rancho Cucamonga was able to get a run and walk-off for the game one win.
