Houston Astros Minor League Recap: August 4th

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (62-50) played a double headers

GAME 1 – won 6-3 (BOX SCORE)

Fresno got a run in the first inning with a run scoring on an error. Las Vegas responded with 3 of their own in the bottom of the first inning off Rodgers. Rodgers would shut them down the rest of the game allowing just three runs in the complete game (7 innings). Fresno tied the game with 2 in the 3rd on a Kemp HR and Stassi RBI single. They got two more in the 4th on an RBI groundout from Kemmer and an RBI single from Kemp. Moran added insurance later with another RBI single and that was more than enough for Rodgers.

GAME 2 – lost 9-4 (BOX SCORE)

This game started off great with Fresno getting 2 runs in the top of the 1st on RBI doubles from Worth and Hernandez. Holmes made his AAA debut but it didn’t go very well as he allowed 3 runs in the first inning. He was relieved by McCurry who gave up 4 runs in the 3rd. Fresno did get 2 more runs on an Aplin RBI double and a Fontana sac fly.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (66-45) lost 7-1 (BOX SCORE)

Corpus jumped out to a lead in this one with a Stubbs RBI double in the 3rd inning. Emanuel was on the mound for the Hooks and went 5.1 innings allowing 2 earned runs. Unfortunately the bullpen got roughed up for 5 more runs and the offense was unable to get anything else going.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (61-49) won 5-3 (BOX SCORE)

Nice win for Lancaster. Deetz got the start and 3 runs in 5 innings of work. Lancaster got on the board in the 1st inning on a Gurriel sal fly. They got another run in the 2nd inning on a Mizell RBI single. They entered the 4th inning down 3-2 but Ritchie tied the game with an RBI single. Garza made his Lancaster debut in relief and was dominant striking out 7 over 3 scoreless innings. With the game tied at 3, Marlow hit a 2 run HR to give the Jethawks the lead. Dorris picked up his 10th save with a scoreless 9th.
