Houston Astros Minor League Recap: August 2nd

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (60-49) won 4-1 (BOX SCORE)

Reed and Hoyt were both promoted to the Astros but it didn’t stop Fresno’s winning ways. Hauschild got the start and allowed 1 run in the first inning but great the rest of the way. He finished going 7 innings allowing just the 1 run. Fresno got on the board in the 3rd inning with Fontana scoring on a groundout. In the 6th inning Kemmer hit a solo HR to take a 2-1 lead. They scored another run in the 7th on a Heineman RBI single. Aplin added some more insurance in the 9th inning with a solo HR, his 5th of the season. McCurry tossed a scoreless 8th and Gustave struck out the side in the 9th to pick up his 2nd save.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (65-44) won 4-2 (BOX SCORE)

Martes tossed another gem last night. Coming off 7 shutout innings in his last outing, Martes struck out a career high 12 batters over his 6.1 innings of work. The only damage against him was a 2 run HR in the 7th inning. Corpus put up a 4 spot in the second inning on a Hyde RBI single, Stubbs RBI walk, and a 2 run single from Tanielu. Thompson tossed 1.2 scoreless innings in relief and West pitched a scoreless 9th pickup up the save.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (60-48) lost 10-9 (BOX SCORE)

Tough loss in extra inning for Lancaster. They jumped on the board in the 1st inning with a 2 run double from Muniz. In the 2nd inning they added 4 more runs on a 2 run HR from Duarte, RBI double from Gurriel, and a Muniz sac fly. Ballard added an RBI single in the 3rd to make it 7-1. Unfortunately, Lake Elsinore would battle back and tie the game with 3 runs in the 4th and 3 runs in the 5th. James started for Lancaster and gave up 6 runs in his 4 innings of work. He was relieved by Deemes who went 3 innings allowing 1 run with 4 strikeouts. The game went to extra innings and Lake Elsinore put up 3 runs in the top of the 12th. Lancaster battled back getting RBI single by Ritchie and Duarte to make it 10-9 but the last two batters struck out ending the rally.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (51-56) lost 8-2 (BOX SCORE)

Quiala got the start for Quad Cities but got roughed up allowing 7 runs, 5 earned in his 5.1 innings of work. The River Bandits got on the board in the 4th inning on a solo HR from Tucker, his 4th HR of the season. Quad Cities would add another run in the 8th on a Tucker RBI single but that is all they would get from the offense. On the positive side, Whitt tossed 1.2 scoreless innings in relief.
