Houston Astros Minor League Recap: August 27th

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (69-65) won 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

The Grizzlies got back on track last night with a solid win. Grills made his second AAA start and was dominant tossing 6.2 scoreless innings while striking out 8. Fresno busted the game open with a 5 run 3rd inning on a White RBI single, Kemmer RBI double, Moran RBI single, Stassi RBI single, and a run scoring on an error. Moran added a solo HR in the 5th inning, his 10th HR of the season. Gustave pitched a scoreless 9th to close it out.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (79-52) won 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

Armenteros made his second start in AA and pitched well once again. He went 6 innings allowing just 1 run (solo HR) with 5 strikeouts. The Hooks got the offense going in the 4th inning with a Tucker RBI single, Gregor RBI double, Ferguson RBI single, and a Ramsay RBI groundout. The Hooks got another run on a Ramsay sac fly in the 6th inning. Thompson tossed the final 3 innings without allowing a run and picking up the saves for the Hooks.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (72-60) lost 8-6 (BOX SCORE)

Back and forth game last night but Lancaster eventually lost. The Jethawks got on the board first with Mizell doubling and scoring on a wild pitch in the first. Martin added a solo HR, his 20th of the season, in the 2nd inning to make it 2-2. They got two more in the 4th on a Ritchie RBI double and Duarte sac fly to take a 4-2 lead but Modesto would tie it up in the bottom of the inning. Lancaster tied the game up with a run scoring on an error in the 8th but Modesto would score three in the bottom of the 8th to take the lead. The Jethawks tried to rally in the 9th getting one run but that would be it.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (58-73) lost 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Really rough stretch for Quad Cities as they lost their 8th in a row and now have lost 12 of their last 13 games. Quiala was on the mound for the River Bandits and didn’t pitch bad as he went 7 innings allowing 3 runs. Unfortunately, the offense couldn’t get much going. They got 1 run in the 5th on a Johnson solo HR and another in the 6th on Porter RBI double. Person and Schmidt held Wisconsin scoreless over the final two innings but the offense was unable to come back.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (34-33) lost 5-1 (BOX SCORE)
