Houston Astros Minor League Recap: August 23rd

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (67-63) lost 6-4 (BOX SCORE)

Another loss for Fresno, their 5th in a row. This game had a little back and forth going on. Rodgers got the start and gave up 4 runs, 3 earned over 5.1 innings of work. Fresno got their first run in the 4th on a Worth RBI double to tie it at 1. The Grizzlies entered the 6th down 3-1 but would rally for 3 runs on a Fisher 2 run double and a Stassi RBI single. Albuquerque would respond in the bottom of the inning to tie it at 4. The game stayed scoreless for the next 3 innings thanks to McCurry and Hoyt. Unfortunately, the Isotopes rallied in the 10th getting a walk-off HR from former Astros outfielder, Brandon Barnes.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (76-51) won 7-2 (BOX SCORE)

Big 6th inning lifts Hooks for the win. Emanuel got the start last night and gave up 2 runs in the first but locked down after that. He finished going 6.1 innings allowing just the 2 runs (1 earned) with 5 strikeouts. Corpus entered the 3rd down 2-0 but tied it with a solo HR from McDonald and an RBI double from Ferguson. The game would stay 2-2 until the 6th. In the bottom of the 6th the Hooks rallied for 5 runs on a Davis RBI single, Gregor RBI single, and a McDonald 3 run HR. Deemes made his AA debut and tossed 1.2 scoreless innings. Peterson came on for the 9th and closed it out sealing the win for the Hooks.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (71-56) lost 10-4 (BOX SCORE)

Lancaster pitching got roughed up a bit last night. The game got started off great with Lancaster scoring 3 times in the 1st inning. In that inning they got RBI singles from Tucker, Muniz, and Mizell. Tucker added an RBI triple in the 2nd inning to give Lancaster a 4-1 lead. High Desert would end up putting up a run in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th chasing starter James who went 5 innings allowing 5 runs. They didn’t stop there as they put up three more in the 7th and one in the 8th and 9th.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (58-69) lost 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Tough loss for Quad Cities. Bower got the start and struggled with his command a bit but only allowed 1 run over 5.2 innings. Roa drove in the only River Bandits’ run with a solo HR in the 2nd inning. The game stayed 1-1 until the 7th when Cedar Rapids got a run off of Ferrell. Quad Cities was unable to respond as they only had 6 hits on the night.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (32-31) lost 2-0 (BOX SCORE)

ROOKIE: Greeneville Astros (28-31) lost 6-1 (BOX SCORE)
