Houston Astros Minor League Recap: August 21st

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (66-61) lost 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Fresno is just 2-8 in their last 10 games. Grills made his AAA debut last night and gave up 4 runs, all coming in the first two innings. He ended up going 5 innings allowing the 4 runs, 3 earned. Fresno got on the board first though with a solo HR from Kemmer in the top of the 1st inning. The Grizzlies would enter the 9th down 4-1 and rally. They got an RBI single from Aplin and a sac fly from Mayfield to make it 4-3 but that would be it as they fell by that score. On a positive note, the bullpen tossed four scoreless innings.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (75-51) won 1-0 (BOX SCORE)

Pitcher’s duel in Arkansas last night. Armenteros made his AA debut and pitched great tossing 7 shutout innings allowing just 4 hits with 3 strikeouts. Stubbs connected on a solo HR, his 4th in AA, in the first inning to give the Hooks a 1-0 lead. The Hooks managed nine more hits and four walks but were unable to score any more. It didn’t matter though as Peterson, who relieved Armenteros, was great as well tossing two scoreless innings to pick up the save.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (71-55) won 8-5 (BOX SCORE)

Nice comeback win for the Jethawks. They jumped out to an early lead getting 2 runs in the 2nd inning on a 2 run double from Ballard. Deetz got the start for Lancaster and allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, over his 3 innings of work. He finished with 7 strikeouts though. Ballard added an RBI single in the 6th to make it a 5-3 game. Lancaster would rally for 8th inning. In that inning they got 5 runs thanks to a Sewald RBI single, Tucker RBI triple, Woodward sac fly, a runs scoring on a wild pitch and another on an error. Abreu made his Cal League debut and tossed 3 scoreless innings with 3 strikeouts. McCanna struck out 2 in the 9th to pick up the save.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (58-67) lost 9-3 (BOX SCORE)

Quiala started last night for the River Bandits and was rolling along before running into trouble in the 4th. He ended up allowing 8 runs in 5 innings of work. Quad Cities tried to rally getting 3 runs in the 6th inning on a Wrenn RBI triple, Johnson RBI double, and Porter RBI single. That is all they would get offensively though as they only managed four hits on the night.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (32-28) POSTPONED

ROOKIE: Greeneville Astros (28-28) lost 10-1 (BOX SCORE)
