Houston Astros Minor League Recap: August 18th
Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.
AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (66-58) won 2-1 (BOX SCORE)
It took 11 innings but Fresno was finally able to break their losing streak. Worth provided an RBI single in the first inning to get the Grizzlies on the board. Valdez was the starter and was great going 7 innings allowing just 1 run with 9 strikeouts. The game would stay tied at 1-1 thanks to scoreless outings from McCurry, Jankowski, and Gustave. In the bottom of the 11th with 2 outs, Moran came through with a walk-off RBI single.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (73-50) won 4-0 (BOX SCORE)
Sneed got the start for the Hooks last night and was dominant. He went 7 innings allowing just 4 hits with 5 strikeouts. Definitely one of his best outings of the season. Laureano got the game started off right for the Hooks with a 2 run HR in the first inning, his 5th HR in AA. In the 5th Hyde added a sac fly to extend the lead to 3-0. Davis plated an insurance run on an RBI single in the 8th inning. Comer tossed two scoreless outings to close it out.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (69-54) played a double header
GAME 1 – lost 12-6 (BOX SCORE)
Rough night for Jethawks’ pitching. Bostick got the start but gave up 6 runs in 3.1 innings. Lancaster got on the board in the 4th inning with 4 runs on a Ferguson solo HR, Woodward RBI single, and a run scoring on an error and a wild pitch. In the 5th inning the Jethawks got back to back homers from Ferguson and Muniz. Garza relieved Bostick and gave up 6 runs himself. Tucker went 2-for-4 in debut for the Jethawks.

GAME 2 – won 10-2 (BOX SCORE)
A reverse of roles in this one as Lancaster won in a blowout in game 2. Ferguson got the scoring started for the Jethawks with a solo HR in the first inning. In the 2nd inning they got two more runs on a Wik 2 run HR. Correa added another 2 run HR in 4th to make it 5-0. Lancaster got 2 more in the 5th and 3 in the 6th on a Straw RBI single, Duarte RBI triple, and Ferguson RBI double. Hernandez tossed the full 7 innings allowing just 2 runs.

Another loss late for Quad Cities. Valdez got the start and pitched well allowing just 1 earned run over 5 innings of work with 7 strikeouts. The offense was being no hit until the 7th Michelena came through with a single. Two batters late, McCall hit a 2 run HR to tie the game. Unfortunately, Schmidt gave up a run in the 8th and Quad Cities was unable to come back.
