Houston Astros Minor League Recap: August 16th

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (65-57) lost 12-5 (BOX SCORE)

Yuhl made his second start in AAA last night and it didn’t go well. He went 3.1 innings giving up 9 runs, 7 earned. Fresno got on the board in the bottom of the 4th inning on a solo HR from Gurriel. They would get two more runs in the 5th on a Gurriel RBI single and Kemmer RBI double. They entered the 7th down 12-3 and got two more runs on RBIs from Kemmer and Worth. The deficit proved to big to come back. Gurriel went 3-for-4 in his AAA debut though.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (72-49) won 7-2 (BOX SCORE)

Corpus flexed their muscles last night. They got the scoring started in the 3rd inning with a 2 run single from Tanielu and a sac fly from McDonald. In the 4th inning Stubbs added a 2 run HR, his 3rd HR in AA. Davis would play insurance agent as he added a solo HR in the 5th and a solo HR in the 9th. Grills was on the mound last night and pitched very well. He finished going 7 innings allowing just 2 runs on a 2 run HR in the 7th. Freeman and Dorris both tossed scoreless innings to close it out.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (68-53) won 11-8 (BOX SCORE)

Wild affair in High Desert last night. Lancaster scored first getting an RBI single in the 1st inning. High Desert responded with 3 in the 2nd, 1 in the 3rd, and 3 in the 4th to take a 7-1 lead. The Jethawks rallied to score 8 runs in the top of the 5th. In that inning they got a Sewald RBI single, Ferguson 2 run single, Ritchie RBI walk, Martin sac fly, and a Woodward 2 run single. In the 7th inning the Jethawks played add on getting 2 more runs on a Straw RBI walk and a Wik sac fly. Armenteros had a rough go of it giving up 7 runs in 4 innings but the bullpen of McCanna and Thome only allowed 1 run over the final five innings.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (57-63) lost 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

This game got away from Quad Cities late. Barrios got the start and only went 2.1 innings allowing 1 run before being pulled. Ferrell tossed the next 2.2 innings allowing 1 run as well. In the top of the 4th Rogers and Trompiz had back to back RBI singles to tie the game at 2. The Quad Cities bullpen gave up 4 more runs and the River Bandits were unable to mount a comeback.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (30-26) OFF

ROOKIE: Greeneville Astros (27-26) won 8-4 (BOX SCORE)
